Today, Shravana Shukla Ekadashi is observed with great reverence in Sanatan Hindu Dharma as Hari Shayani Ekadashi, Devshayani Ekadashi, or Padma Ekadashi. According to sacred tradition, on this auspicious day, Lord Vishnu enters Yoga Nidra (divine cosmic sleep) on the serpent Ananta Shesha in the Kshira Sagara (Ocean of Milk) for four months. This day also marks the beginning of Chaturmas, during which marriages, sacred thread ceremonies, and many other auspicious ceremonies are traditionally postponed.
Hari Shayani Ekadashi is not merely a day of fasting; it is a profound spiritual discipline that purifies the mind, speech, and actions. It inspires devotees to withdraw from worldly distractions, greed, anger, attachment, and ego, and instead embrace self-reflection, devotion, righteousness, and inner peace.

Observing a fast or consuming only fruits, while reciting or listening to the Vishnu Sahasranama, Shrimad Bhagavatam, the Bhagavad Gita, or engaging in Hari Nama Sankirtan (devotional chanting), is considered highly meritorious. Offering lamps, worshipping Tulsi, and performing acts of charity in the evening are believed to bring spiritual upliftment and divine blessings.

Offering water to Tulsi, lighting a lamp before it, and performing circumambulation are cherished traditions.
